Capanna, an illustrious winery in Italy, has been under the stewardship of the Cencioni family since 1957. Located in the Montosoli area north of Montalcino, Capanna was founded by Giuseppe Cencioni, and with help of his sons Benito and Franco, became one of the first farms established in the modern period of Brunello. They started bottling their own wines in the 1960's and after Brunello di Montalcino was granted DOC status in 1966, Giuseppe became one of the 25 founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. In 1975, Capanna began exporting its renowned Brunello di Montalcino DOC, starting with the Capanna 1970 vintage. The 66 hectare Capanna estate (27 ha under vine) remains a family-run operation, with both farming and winemaking processes managed by the Cencioni family. They also collaborate with esteemed oenologist Paolo Vagaggini to ensure the highest quality in their wines. The dedication and expertise of the Cencioni family have solidified Capanna's reputation as a producer of some of the finest Brunello di Montalcino wines available.

Tasting Notes

The wine offers a fragrant nose with aromas of violets, lavender, blackberries, and spice. On the palate, it is smooth, ripe, and silky, with crisp wild berry flavors balanced by hints of sour citrus. The finish is long and staining, yet remains fresh, with gentle tannins and lingering purple-toned floral notes. This wine pairs beautifully with both fresh and aged cheeses, cold cuts, and pasta dishes with tomato or Bolognese sauce.
