Dating back to the 13th century, Castello di Bolgheri encompasses the final kilometer leading into the historic village of Bolgheri, flanking the iconic Viale dei Cipressi. The estate's cellar, constructed in 1796 by the Gherardesca family, currently under the ownership of Count Federico Zileri Dal Verme, stands today as the oldest in the appellation. Now among the largest landholders in Bolgheri, the winery is also one of the few Italian estates granted the distinction of incorporating the appellation name into its brand identity. As Bolgheri continues to evolve, Castello di Bolgheri remains steadfast in its commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. Vineyard practices include the use of pheromone dispensers to naturally mitigate pests and disease pressure, the incorporation of green manures, the elimination of chemical fertilizers, and the cultivation of biodiversity through a variety of complementary plantings.
