Cloudy Bay exists today because of the vision and humble commitment to quality of its founder, David Hohnen, a farmer who loved wine and dreamt of expressing the terroir in his glass. Often credited with putting the Marlborough region on the global winemaking map, the story of Cloudy Bay is one of adventure. Hohnen was captivated by the intensity and depth of this wine. Knowing that a great wine is the expression of a great terroir, he felt as if the Sauvignon Blanc were a piece of land expressing something he had never experienced before. His dream then became to make the world discover this taste of Marlborough by crafting wines of the highest quality. He saw this land as a blank canvas and he knew that if he wanted to realise its potential, he would need a great winemaking artist who could paint it.

Tasting Notes

Cloudy Pinot Noir is very aromatic, displaying a powerful bouquet of classic Pinot Noir. Upon nosing the wine, a wide selection flavors appear, from the lighter spectrum of rose, violet and ripe berry fruit through to dark cherry with a hint of luscious plum. Structurally the wine is seamless. The palate is concentrated and framed with ripe silky tannins. Spicy oak and herbal notes attribute to the wines complexity. Long, fleshy and lithe.
