Founded by Nicolas Schlumberger in 1810, Domaines Schlumberger produce 100% estate-bottled wines from southern Alsace. Today, the 6th and 7th generations carry on the family tradition. Because of the aridity and steepness of these domaines, the yields are about 50% of the average for the appellation of Alsace. The result is small yields of the highest quality grapes with exceptional concentration of flavor. The Schlumberger vineyards are the largest in Alsace, and in fact, one of the largest blocks of contiguous vineyards in all of France
Tasting Notes
The robe is lemon yellow with light green reflections of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid, and transparent, showing youth. The nose is pleasant and expressive, marked by citrus fruits (mandarin zest, lemon, crystallised orange), white flowers, and a light ferruginous touch. Airing brings smoky, flinty notes and ginger spice. The nose is open, already revealing minerality. Perfect ripeness expresses a great terroir. The palate opens fleshy with full-bodied alcohol, evolving on a precise, saline, and lively structure. Aromas are more austere, with dominant mineral notes (flint, naphta), yuzu zest, lime, white flowers, and ginger. A noble bitterness underlines the long, vibrant finish. Despite sun exposure, this Riesling perfectly reflects its soil and is made to age.
