'Gonzalez Byass Jerez: The Heart and Soul of Gonzalez Byass Gonzalez Byass was founded in 1835 by Manuel Maria Gonzalez and remains in family hands today, now in the fifth and sixth generation. Founded in Jerez de la Frontera, south of Spain, in the heart of Sherry country, it is dedicated to the production of high-quality sherries and stands as a cornerstone of the esteemed Sherry Triangle. The winery showcases the wide and fascinating universe of Sherry with each wine bearing the imprint of the region's distinctive character. They offer a vast range that includes Amontillados, Oloroso, Palos Cortados, Medium, Cream and Pedro Ximenez, presented in various age ranges. Some of them, such as those aged 12 or 30 years, are exemplary in their category, while others have become singular and rare oenological gems. These gems, like the V.O.R.S. (Very Old Rare Sherry), with examples such as Del Duque, Apostoles, Matusalem and Noe, stand out for being authentic objects of desire for collectors. Furthermore, Gonzalez Byass offers unique and unreplicable wines, which reflect the wisdom acquired during almost two centuries of history. Each of these brands is an ambassador of Sherry Wines, representing the past, present, and future of this iconic region. '

Tasting Notes

Solera 1847 is an 8-year-old Cream sherry, 75% Palomino and 25% PX. Each variety is age separately for 4 years in American oak Sherry casks and then a further 4 years together as a blend. It shows a dark mahogany color due to the addition of the Pedro Ximenez. On the nose aromas of raisins, vanilla, oak and slight hints of hazelnuts. On the palate a delicate wine with a smooth reminder of dates and raisins, finishing with notes of caramel, oak and slight hints of nuts. Ideal as an aperitif with cheese however also as a dessert wine with vanilla ice cream, fruit salad and apple pie.
