Mezcal Lobos 1707 was born of founder Diego Osorio's restless creativity. Born into a centuries-old sherry tradition but with an averred love of agave, Diego went to Mexico with history on his mind and an eye to the future....Another Diego Osorio, generations prior, sharing a name, bloodline and wanderlust with his descendant and 'tocayo,' left Spain in approximately 1707 seeking opportunities in the New World. He brought with him barrels of sweet Jerez wine, and when those barrels were empty, he refilled them with the local agave spirit and returned to Spain... Researching his family history, our (very modern) Diego had discovered lore of this delicious, sherry-finished spirit his great-great-great forebear had brought home from Mexico and recognized the opportunity before him: to recreate a family legacy fusing his ancestor's methods with his own. Mezcal Lobos 1707 took a master blender from Jerez, a life-long distiller from Jalisco, a young man with a determined sense of purpose, and hundreds of iterations to perfect. Rooted in two cultures and two countries, Lobos 1707 Mezcal is a singular and unexpected vision that speaks to oceans crossed and conventions broken. An expectation-defying spirit distilled in Jalisco and finished in a 'sistema solera' of Pedro Ximenez sherry casks from Jerez, Lobos 1707marries the old with the new- innovation with tradition- in creating a category-expanding, multiple-award-winning mezcal that's impossible to ignore.
Tasting Notes
A unique, vibrant and piquant flavor profile is introduced on the nose by bright citrus and floral notes, mesquite, roast agave, as well as hints of coriander seed, pulque and fried vanilla. On the palate, black pepper, hickory smoke, toasted pinon, and young pineapple lead to desert sage, and rich, creamy spice.
