For five generations, the Alves de Sousa family has been rooted in Portugal's Douro Valley, quietly supplying exceptional grapes to other producers. That changed in 1987, when Domingos Alves de Sousa made a courageous decision: to return to the family estates and bottle wines under their own name. It was more than a business venture - it was a revolution. Domingos restructured the vineyards, built modern cellars, and became a pioneer in championing high-quality still Douro wines, a category long overshadowed by traditional Port. He saw untapped potential in the land and a way to honor its history while forging a new path forward. Today, the journey continues as a true family enterprise. Domingos works in close partnership with his son, Tiago, who serves as the exclusive winemaker. Together, they harness the unique character of several distinct properties across the Douro, including the famed Quinta da Gaivosa, expressing the authentic voice of indigenous grape varieties through both their celebrated still wines and exceptional Ports. Each bottle is a testament to an unwavering family vision - a living story of generations of hard work and one man's daring belief that their name deserved to be on the label.
